Payment on Sell-Through: Year in Review

When LeafLink launched Payment on Sell-Through (PoST) in 2024, we hoped to empower the cannabis industry with the means to buy and sell with confidence, boost sales, and keep cash flow healthy. One year later, we’re thrilled to see our customers turning that vision into reality. Those who’ve embraced PoST, like Six Labs, Lion Labs, Maggie’s Farm and Organic Alternatives, are seeing positive momentum. We’ve listened closely to feedback from early adopters, allowing us to refine PoST and make it work even better for more operators.

So as we celebrate PoST’s first year, let’s take a look back at its successes, how it’s improved, and where we see PoST going in the future.

Not familiar with PoST? Check out our original blog post explaining how it works.

PoST By the Numbers

Here’s a look at how PoST has grown over the past year.

This is a great start, and we’re excited to see where the next year takes us.

How Brands Are Using PoST

For brands, PoST has been a tool to drive sales, optimize inventory levels at retail, automate collections, and empower sales teams with actionable insights.

In the case of Lion Labs in Michigan, PoST helped them drive faster, more frequent reorders—keeping product consistently on shelves and eliminating the risk of nonpayment.

“Normally we’d go a few months between orders. Now we’re consistently sending smaller orders, keeping product on the shelves instead of letting it run out because they can’t afford the next order.”
– Erik Root, COO @ Lion Labs

It’s also eliminated the need for accounting teams to manually track receivables.

“The dashboard is easy. I can send the data to my accounting team so they know exactly how much is coming in each week.”

For Six Labs, PoST provided the brand with the insights they needed to efficiently increase sales and cater to customer demand.

“PoST gives us visibility into how our products are moving, allowing us to right-size orders for each retail partner and location. As a result, the retailers are able to stock the right products for their customer base and make more money, and we receive more frequent, consistent orders.”
– Ron Gibori, CEO, Six Labs

In their first order on PoST, Six Labs was able to double sales of underperforming SKUs mid order cycle. They realized that bulk flower didn’t perform in a particular retail location, and were able to work with the retailer on a discount to move products on shelves and shift some of the inventory to another retail location where they knew it would perform better.

How Retailers Are Using PoST

PoST offers retailers an opportunity to keep more cash on hand, reduce inventory carry risk, and automate payables.

For Organic Alternatives in Colorado, the idea of automating payables was most attractive.

“I had an ongoing issue where bills were getting paid late, not at all, or even twice in some cases. It was a mess. The idea of reducing the room for error—that was appealing to me.”
– Kirk Scramstad, COO, Organic Alternatives

After onboarding to PoST, they began to realize more of the core benefits, as it helped them stretch cash flow further and reduce the amount they were spending upfront on inventory costs.

“In this environment, you need to retain as much cash as you can. With PoST, the software is directly tied to Metrc so you’re able to retain your cash until inventory actually sells.”

Maggie’s Farm in Colorado saw similar benefits, allowing them to re-engage with dozens of vendors who they previously weren’t able to work with due to cash flow constraints. They also now enjoy a streamlined accounts payable process, thanks to automated payments on PoST orders.

“Having so many different terms and payment methods, it was really hard to make sure everybody got paid on time while maintaining healthy cash flow. PoST helps automate the payments piece so I can focus on stocking great products. I get weekly emails summarizing my upcoming payments, and know they’ll all be sent on time.”
– Chloe Smith, Purchasing Manager, Maggie’s Farm

New Features and Improvements

Based on early adopter feedback, we’ve made a number of improvements to PoST that give operators more control and flexibility.

More control for buyers and sellers

On the seller side, we’ve made it easier to turn PoST on or off, make it your default payment method, and restrict specific buyers who you’d like to exclude from PoST. You can review all of these settings changes and see detailed instructions in this knowledge center article.

For buyers, we’ve also made it easier to turn PoST on or off anytime, and restrict certain sellers from generating PoST orders. Check out this knowledge center article for details on how to access these settings.

New Payment Terms for Everyone

For some products, the 60 days just isn’t long enough for everything to sell out. As a result, we added a new option for a 90-day sell-through period for PoST orders. Buyers and sellers can work together to determine the time parameters that best meet their needs, and you can edit this sell-through period anytime.

What’s Next

Going forward, we’ll be exploring ways to make PoST even more valuable for both brands and retailers with things like additional flexible payment options, improved automation and deeper insights.
